Find out if you have a local #LUG, a !Linux Users Group. In #Waterloo Region we have a great LUG, @KWLUG@sn.jonkman.ca, as well as completely separate groups for #KWNPSA ( #NonProfit #SysAdmin), #KWVoIP (a #VoIP Users Group), different user groups for just about every programming language (and three for #Javascript alone). All are warm and friendly -- I know, 'cos I've been to most. But start by finding a local Linux User Group, where people can point you in as many directions as you're willing to go.

    • Still Andrew (I guess)
@zatnosk @ajroach42 I think dialogs as a whole fail to prevent sites from doing bad things. I've seen too many sites that say We are unable to show you our content because you have #JavaScript turned off and users then allow whatever the site and its third party partners want to do.
    .
I'd make the client default to being unable to perform most tasks involving 3rd parties.

@bob Except there will always be some local processing because they'll still use #JavaScript to handle the data-collection ("spying on users").

    ♲ @Roman 🐡 (romanzolotarev@twitter.com): Dear web developers,

Make sure web pages you make work without #JavaScript too.
Yes, you can do a lot with just HTML and CSS.
Please make the web fast and clean.

    Thank you.

#Little_Boy_A discovered that his Kano laptop has a user-modifiable #Minecraft ... he’s been exploring the mods he can make.

According to #Daddy_A, there is also a block-based programming editor that has a couple of different levels of difficulty, culminating in some use of #JavaScript.

@moonman That's true, but making sites that are still usable without #JavaScript means sites that are not going through a rush re-architecting after the not yet known event finally pierces JS's aorta. That was what I think @cypnk was grumbling about: #JavaScrippled sites.

Ever-growing list of websites that don’t work at all or show a plain white page without #JavaScript is a testament to the cesspool that is modern web development

I browse without JS on mobile to save my meager bandwidth (8mb for JS libs from 10 different sources), to save battery life, and to avoid the deluge of on-page malarkey that make most sites unusable

@lanodan Explanation: When I see a comment or someone follows, I check their profile. Why should it be required to allow some.random.instance run #JavaScript for that? Their actual users should already trust them, but why should other instances' users have to trust them?

    Strange #javascript question:

I'd like to use #opendyslexic on my website. Specifically, I would like to add something such that a user can click on a link or button and it'll automagickally change everything to the OpenDyslexic font (or back again).

I don't even know if this would be possible. My knowledge of web design ended at 1999.

Does anyone know of a way to go about this?
